Hydrodynamic turbulence in disks with embedded planets

چکیده
The vertical shear instability (VSI) is a source of hydrodynamic turbulence that can drive vigorous mixing and moderate levels accretion in protoplanetary disks, it could be observable the near future. With high-resolution three-dimensional numerical hydrodynamics simulations, we modeled behavior VSI disks with without embedded planets. We then measured its capabilities by comparing full Reynolds stress, which includes contribution nonaxisymmetric features, such as spiral arms vortices, to stress due azimuthally averaged velocity field, attributed good approximation VSI. verified contribute showed that, depending on disk conditions, an planet coexist or suppress turbulent stress. Specifically, presence shocks launched planet-generated vortices interfere planet's vicinity, recovering at large enough distances from vortex. Our results suggest observations signatures are unlikely contain massive, features.

Hydrodynamic Turbulence in Accretion Disks
Turbulent viscosity in cold accretion disks is likely to be hydrodynamic in origin. We investigate the growth of hydrodynamic perturbations in a small region of a disk, which we model as a linear shear flow with Coriolis force, between two parallel walls. Although there are no exponentially growing eigenmodes in this system, because of the non-normal nature of the modes, it is possible to have ...
متن کاملBypass to Turbulence in Hydrodynamic Accretion Disks: An Eigenvalue Analysis
Cold accretion disks such as those in star-forming systems, quiescent cataclysmic variables, and some active galactic nuclei, are expected to have neutral gas which does not couple well to magnetic fields. The turbulent viscosity in such disks must be hydrodynamic in origin, not magnetohydrodynamic. We investigate the growth of hydrodynamic perturbations in a linear shear flow sandwiched betwee...
متن کاملBypass to Turbulence in Hydrodynamic Accretion Disks: An Eigenvalue Approach
Cold accretion disks with temperatures below ∼ 3000K are likely to be composed of highly neutral gas. The magnetorotational instability may cease to operate in such disks, so it is of interest to consider purely hydrodynamic mechanisms of generating turbulence and angular momentum transport. With this motivation, we investigate the growth of hydrodynamic perturbations in a linear shear flow san...
متن کاملCollisional Cascades in Planetesimal Disks II. Embedded Planets
We use a multiannulus planetesimal accretion code to investigate the growth of icy planets in the outer regions of a planetesimal disk. In a quiescent minimum mass solar nebula, icy planets grow to sizes of 1000–3000 km on a timescale tP ≈ 15 − 20 Myr (a/30 AU), where a is the distance from the central star. Planets form faster in more massive nebulae. Newly-formed planets stir up leftover plan...
متن کاملEvolution of Planets in Disks
The main properties of the observed extrasolar planets are reviewed with respect to their relevance to the formation scenario of planetary systems. Results of numerical computations of embedded planets in viscously evolving disks are presented. Emphasis is given to the accretion and migration process. New calculations on inviscid disks are shown. The second part of the talk concentrates on reso...
